The 1860 election showed divisions because there was someone for Southern Democratic and someone for Northern Democratic. This showed that the North and South were definitely divided. Well yea, the North is on the top and the South is at the bottom, duh. But they need different kinds of Democrats. This definitely revealed divisions in the country.

The 1860 election showed divisons between the North, the SOuth, and even the east and west. The North was mainly agaisnt slavery, and made money mostly by factories. The south were for slavery, gaining profits by cotton farms, farm owners needed workers that would work for little or no money, which increased the demand for slaves. "Southern elements insisted that the nominating convention make a strong statement supporting slavery in the territories. Western elements, however, opposed that stance and argued for an endorsement of popular sovereignty."

The election of 1860 showed people new divisions and also how much others had grown. The main parts of the divisions started with the publishing of "Uncle Tom's Cabin", because it showed the North what slavery was like. Then, the Fugitive Slave Act was passed, which made people in the North who were against slavery return any escaped slave to the South, so they now had to participate, though somewhat indirectly, in what they thought was wrong. Most people then chose to pick the one out of four candidates that felt very strongly in stopping the expansion of slavery into new territories and states. The South decided that they would not put up with this and started seceding. This then sparked the Civil War.

The 1960 election was divided between North and South. Northerners voted for Republicans and Southerners voted for Democrats. This was mostly to stop or promote the expansion of slavery in the new territories. In the end Abraham Lincoln won with not even one electoral vote from the South. The North was jubilant and the South was devistated. The South and the North were so against each other that they were almost two different countries.
