This was enacted in the United States to add further substance to the anti trust law regime by seeking to prevent anticompetitive practices in their incipiency. This means that they were trying to get rid of competition. This is bad because then monopolies could start to happen. And, not a lot of people would start to merge. If there is no competition, then what is the point of merging. You are already going to get a lot of money anyway.

The Clayton antitrust act was basically meant to rid the country of competition between businesses. When there was no competition no companies or businesses would merge and there would be more businesses. This idea started with the Sherman Antitrust Act of 1980 that outlawed practices considered harmful to consumers.

The act prohibited exclusive sales contracts, local price cutting to freeze out competitors, rebates, interlocking directorates in corporations capitalized at $1 million or more in the same field of business, and intercorporate stock holdings. Labor unions and agricultural cooperatives were excluded from the forbidden combinations in the restraint of trade. The act restricted the use of the injunction against labor, and it legalized peaceful strikes, picketing, and boycotts. It declared that “the labor of a human being is not a commodity or article of commerce.”

In short, The clayton Antitrust Act changed Business. It gave workers the right to strike if they were treated unfair.
